Tattoo Aftercare

Proper aftercare is crucial for your tattoo's healing and final appearance. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure the best results.

First 24 Hours

  • Leave the initial bandage on for 2-3 hours, unless instructed otherwise by your artist. If a second-skin bandage (like Saniderm) was applied, it may be worn for 24-72 hours, depending on your artist's recommendation
  • After removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap to remove any plasma or excess ink
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel - do not rub
  • Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment
  • Do not re-bandage the tattoo unless instructed by your artist

First Week

  • Wash your tattoo 2-3 times daily with lukewarm water and unscented soap
  • Apply a thin layer of aftercare product after each wash
  • Do not soak the tattoo (no baths, swimming, etc.)
  • Wear loose-fitting, clean clothing over the tattoo
  • Avoid activities that cause heavy sweating, such as intense workouts, until the tattoo is fully healed. Sweat can introduce bacteria and irritate the healing process

Long Term Care

  • Keep the tattoo moisturized with unscented lotion
  • Always protect your tattoo from sun exposure with SPF 50+ sunscreen
  • Avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure
  • Maintain good skin health through proper hydration and care

Important Notes

DO NOT:

  • Pick or scratch at scabs
  • Expose tattoo to direct sunlight while healing
  • Do not soak the tattoo- avoid swimming, hot tubs, and baths. Stick to quick showers, keeping the tattoo out of direct water pressure
  • Apply harsh chemicals or fragranced products
  • Wear tight or abrasive clothing over the tattoo

Signs of Normal Healing:

  • Mild redness and swelling in the first few days
  • Light scabbing
  • Mild itching
  • Slight tenderness

Seek Medical Attention If:

  • Severe redness, swelling, or warmth
  • Pus or excessive discharge
  • Fever or chills
  • Severe pain or discomfort
